Airspeeder is an innovative new motorsport series that’s revolutionising the way we think about racing.  Dubbed ‘the F1 of Flying Cars’, Airspeeder events will see up to 10 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) ‘speeders’ race around an augmented reality track in a selection of remote locations, starting with Adelaide in South Australia.
I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Airspeeder, an innovative company pushing the boundaries of electric aviation. Together, we embarked on a 1-and-a-half-year journey to design and develop a wide range of cutting-edge systems. From the ground up, we conceptualized, workshopped, and designed a diverse array of systems that were integral to the Airspeeder experience.

These systems included portable race stations, flight control, race control, race timing, pilot augmented HUD (Heads Up Display), timing sheets, telemetry playback, track design, event planning system design, flight director station, augmented reality tabletop experience, and a pilot training flight simulator. Throughout the project, we held intensive brainstorming sessions, engaging with experts and stakeholders to refine our vision. We worked tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the systems aligned with Airspeeder's commitment to revolutionizing the future of electric aviation.
As the lead designer, I embraced a user-centered approach, carefully crafting designs that catered to the needs and preferences of the Airspeeder pilots and racing specialists. Drawing upon my expertise in UX/UI design and incorporating valuable insights from user research gathered in  bodystorming and ideation workshops, I created intuitive interfaces that facilitated seamless interactions and elevated the overall user experience creating a critically safe environment for them to operate.
NO 'I' IN TEAM

Working closely with a talented team of developers and engineers, we transformed these designs into functional and performant systems. Our collaborative efforts ensured that the systems were not only visually appealing but also scalable, reliable, and compliant with the stringent safety standards set by CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority). The culmination of our hard work came to fruition during the live flight demo, where all the systems seamlessly integrated to deliver an unparalleled racing experience. Witnessing the successful execution of the race stations, flight control, race timing, and other components was a moment of immense pride and accomplishment.

Embracing innovation is often seen as a risky endeavor, but it is through the collaboration of like-minded individuals that these risks can transform into tangible outcomes. Having the opportunity to guide and inspire these individuals on a groundbreaking achievement was truly exceptional. Witnessing the aircraft navigate through the virtual world I helped create was a moment that will forever be etched in my memory. It was a testament to the power of teamwork, determination, and the limitless possibilities that can be realized when we push the boundaries of what is possible.
The Airspeeder project stands as a testament to the power of visionary thinking, collaborative design, and relentless dedication. By pushing the boundaries of what is possible in electric aviation, we paved the way for an exciting future of high-speed racing, advanced training methodologies, and technological innovation in the skies.
